Tasmania and Western Australia have very similar regulations to Queensland. It would be prudent for clinic operators in less regulated states to follow the Queensland example, especially in the areas of laser safety, room set up, operator training and client welfare.

The plan is a very detailed document and specifies the actions to protect people and the environment from the harmful effects of the radiation that will be used in your clinic. Before you can apply for approval to acquire your laser, you will need to submit a Possession Licence Application. Application for a Licence to Posess a Radiation Source (Laser).You will need to include details of your RSPP with your application.
In Queensland, to own a tattoo removal laser, you will need to submit an Application for an Approval to Acquire a Radiation Apparatus (Laser).You will need to include details of your Possession Licence.
Radiation Health Queensland mandates that you use the services of an Accredited Person to assess if your premises are compliant with the relevant safety standards. Our senior technician and trainer, James is fully accredited with Radiation Health Queensland to certify that your laser room complies with all the standards. When you buy a tattoo removal laser in Australia, it must be listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods as a medical device. This register is published by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and it is an offence to laser a person with a laser that is not on the register. Be wary of overseas suppliers who may tell you that the device is approved for Australia. It is the responsibility of the Australian supplier to provide you with a Compliance Certificate for the laser.
